Because different users approach research in different ways,
Consulta provides patrons with six different search
paths. Users can utilize:
Búsqueda simple (Basic Search) - A simple keyword search.
Users enter a word, words or phrase and click on "Buscar"
(search) - the forward arrow. The Basic search returns a greater
number of results, which is ideal for users interested in building
a wider perspective on a topic.
Búsqueda avanzada (Advanced Search) - Experienced users
find our Advanced Search a great way to immediately hone their
search request. Uses can text-search on the subject, the title
of the record/article, the title of the source book/periodical,
author or the document's full text using Boolean operators.
Búsqueda temática (Subject Search) - A subject
hierarchy tree makes it easy for users to find information related
to high-level subject areas, or narrow them to specific terms.
Biografías (Biographies) - Locating an individual vital
to a user's research has never been easier. Simply enter a person's
name or, if the name is unknown, enter information that is available,
such as nationality, gender, occupation and birth and/or death
dates to deliver all matching results in a matter of seconds.
Cronología (Timeline/Chronology) - This exciting new search
feature allows users to click on a time period on a graphic timeline
to access highlighted information from that era, or users can
perform a more refined search by entering a specific year or time
frame or keyword text in the entry field and clicking "Buscar"
(Search).
Galería (Image Gallery) - Adding a visual or two to any
assignment is easier than ever with this unique feature. Uses
can search for an image by entering a search term or caption and
clicking on "Buscar" (Search).
Cartografía (Map Center) - A user may specify the
geographic areas of interest by entering a term or searching the
provided heirachial tree. Maps that correspond to each query are
presented via a results list. Locations on the map that have additional
information available in Consulta are shown as links
on the bottom of the page.
Atlas de anatomía (Anatomical Atlas) - The branches
on the Anatomical Atlas search tree correspond to the major systems
of the human anatomy. The antomical diagrams also provide links
to additional information on the selected term.
Clásicos literarios (Literature Library) - Provides
access to the Literature Library, which contains both full works
as well as selections of classic literature from around the world
such as Homer's Illiad, Dante's Divine Comedy and
Cervantes' Don Quixote.
Diccionarios (Dictionary) - This feature offers users
bilingual translations of words and phrases, as well as full Spanish
definitions, antonyms and synonyms. Users can perform Spanish/English,
Spanish/French, Spanish/German and Spanish/Portuguese translations.
